Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - Stanley Kubrick

A darkly comedic masterpiece, Dr. Strangelove and How I Learned to Love the Bomb is a satirical take on the nuclear arms race that is as relevant today as it was when it first hit the screens in 1964.

First, it will be useful not to explain in advance who the enigmatic and elusive Dr Strangelove is. Indeed, it would be foolish to reveal the plot. Although in fact it is quite simple: what would have happened if the conflict of opposing blocks created after the end of the Second World War had resulted in an atomic clash?

Two years after the end of the Cuban Missile Crisis (1962), Kubrick made this black comedy, at times grotesque, about the danger of a nuclear confrontation between the Cold War superpowers.

A comedy then, but also a film of social and political criticism, which ventures to address the mentality, hypocrisies and cultural climate of those years.

And finally, the subtle analysis of custom: the atomic catastrophe that looms over humanity is experienced as a long, insistent erotic relationship. All this without the mockery concealing the attack on the cardinal myths of power.

A classic that seems so distant in time and yet, perhaps unfortunately, very relevant today.
